Ten Books I Struggled to Get Into But Ended Up Loving
Disclaimer: Some of these books I ended up liking, not loving.
I will admit, I started this book multiple times, and always put it down. For me, it started out a little slow and typical. When it started to pick up it was like a firecracker full of nothing but excitement, beauty, and fire! This was a 5/5 stars for me!
For me this book was pretty slow. In the first book I didn't like Rose (don't worry, I ended up loving her). The ending of this book gave me just enough to want to read more, and I am so glad I did. I love this series. 3/5 stars
So if you have been a reader of my blog for awhile, you know I was NOT a Seth fan in the Covenant series. Of course I was going to be hesitant to read The Return, but I was going to read it because JLA wrote it. I am so glad I gave this book a chance, because once I warmed up to Seth, I fell in love with this book! 5/5 stars
This book starts like most Alice in Wonderland retellings do, and that made it slow for me. With that being said this book is a magical unique retelling that takes a story of its own on. This was a spell bounding book for me. 4/5 stars
I know this is a beloved series in our community, but This one was hard for me. I didn't care for the writing, and that was hard for me to keep reading. I did end up liking it, but it isn't my favorite. It has unique twists. Like Splintered it took an old fairy tale and made it it's own. 3/5 stars
I was afraid of this book. I wasn't for sure if it was going to be it's own story or just a knock off of my beloved Percy Jackson books. There were a few things in the start that were very similar to Percy Jackson, and that made me getting into the story slow. Obviously I pushed through, and was relieved that this book DOES have it's own story, and a new hero that I am rooting for. 4/5 stars
This is another one that just started out slow. The first half nothing really happened, and I was just bored. It ending up being fast passed, a fun take on angles, and the ending had a great cliff hanger. 4/5 stars.
The Falconer takes time to give the reader background history. It shows what is expected of a women in the time it takes place in, and what our main character has went through in her past. I was excited to get to the action so it took awhile for me to get into this one. Once the ball got rolling it never stopped. 4/5 stars.
I think the author really wanted the book to read as a contemporary, so the paranormal aspect could be more suspenseful. Sadly that didn't work for me in this book. Once the action and paranormal stuff started happening I was frustrated. I did like those aspects of it, and after time I realized how much I did enjoy the second half of the book. 3/5 stars.
This fantasy had some world building that at times was complex, but I wouldn't say that this was hard to get into. It was more hard to keep everything straight at first. Like in some fantasy the world building and story lines can be complex. I loved this book and it was one of the first fantasy besides Harry Potter that I really got into. This is a great gateway Fantasy. 5/5 stars.
